Re: AAIU Reports

Have the IAA ever given the reasons why this effective ban on "powered parachutes" is in place?

Have they banned Cirrus aircraft also? :)

Re: Renewing FIR

It would be interesting to know how the level of flight test "fails" under the IAA compares to that under other authorities. Could the currency renewal requirement for flight examiners may be a significant contributory factor? (a bit like driver testing of old)

Re: flying so low!!!

If you are looking for a project, how about posting here your general findings as you go. I don’t know if this information can readily be found in one place, but it would be interesting to have a single reference as to - Cost of acquiring, say, a 600m strip, and any planning issues that may arise re...

Re: State aerodromes - into wind runways

I'm sure ATC would have facilitated his use of 16 if requested. This is the key point here. I am not sure that this assertion is entirely valid. On one occasion, under conditions not too dissimilar, a polite (maybe too polite) request for an into wind runway was refused. Now you can argue about wea...

State aerodromes - into wind runways

Having just read an incident report (AAIU Report No. 2012-001) regarding a cross-wind landing issue, I am minded to bring up again something I have previously commented upon – the lack of north-south tarmac runways in the country. This may be particularly relevant to long distance flyers during the ...

How do these get transported from US to Ireland? Is it a north pole job? At this time of year, and with that colouring, could be mistaken for Mr Claus & Co. Ho! Ho! Ho! :)

Re: What flight school for my PPL?

Save up and get yourself organised to go to US, Canada or possibly South Africa. Failing that, go the club route. Do not waste your time and money on a commercial flying school in Ireland.

Re: Apparently the IAA can only fund itself!!

With the publication today of the Public Service Reform Plan, it looks like the IAA will be merged with the Commission for Aviation Regulation. So it’s bye bye to independent oversight. :(

Re: irish air corps crash. pc9 265

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Military section of this month's Flying in Ireland magazine for an update on final report status. Though why this appears in a commercial magazine and not on the AAIU website is an interesting point.

Re: Apparently the IAA can only fund itself!!

It is not evident from which categories of activity the IAA is generating its profits. So, it may be that not just the costs involved in calculating regulation charges are excessive. It could be that a profit is also being taken on top of these costs.

Re: Apparently the IAA can only fund itself!!

Well maybe the Aviation Regulator should seek the additional remit needed, quickly. As for GASCI, I have always thought that “quality” and “safety” had a common characteristic – you can pretty much hang anything on either if you are minded to do so. A little bit more worrying is the incipient sugges...
