Have Asthma myself and passed class 1 medical no probs, make sure to tell them when you are booking the medical and again declare it on the forms you fill out - just so they know.

Went to Algoa to do my PPL, great place. They provide you with all the books you need so I wont bother taking any down with you. When are you planning on going? I'm heading down again at the end of the month.

scraggane,

Having been to SA myself for ppl, I would definitly suggest Algoa Flight Centre in Port Elizabeth, check out www.algoafc.co.za, very good school and with the good weather you will clock up many hours (although you may need to fly with an instructor if you dont already have a ppl).

Nosedive,

I went to South Africa and got my ppl two years ago. I went to Algoa Flight School in Port Elizabeth (www.algoafc.co.za) and found them to be excellent. I fly here in Ireland on my South African PPl without any probs but if you wish you can always convert to an Irish PPL.

John_os The weather is very good most of the year, I went in June which is during their winter time. Weather fronts tended to pass by the Cape every week or so, if this happened you would lose a day due to rain then to be followed by a good week of hot dry weather. On a wet day we would study for ou...

John_os, I would suggest going to South Africa to finish your ppl, like yourself I have done a few hours of flying here in Ireland but decided it would be quicker and cheaper to go else where. I went to Algoa Flight Centre in Port Elizabeth and found them to be great. The training was to a very high...
