Re: Setting Up Own airfield

Just to clarify some points for you. Planning Permission is required for the use of land as an airfield. An Bord Pleanala decided that the use of land for landing and taking off is a Material Change of Use and a Material Change of Use always need permission (even for model aircraft). So even where t...

Re: Galway Zone

I have been told that the transfer of title for Galway Airport to Galway County Council has been completed. Their plans for 'industrial development' may take a bit longer. There is no demand whatsoever for any new industrial buildings especially as the IDA have a large serviced industrial site withi...

Re: Galway Zone

Not so William. If it was that way all the purpose built shopping centres in the country would 'avoid the act'. The legislative protection is based on occupation............ head lease or any sublease is irrelevant. The act applies to predecessors in title. Indeed, the occupier with the benefit if t...

Re: Galway Zone

Just some advice to any readers in these 'interesting times' when 'ownership' of some airports and facilities are changing hands. according to our legislation an occupier of a building for a period in excess of 5 years is entitled to remain in possession for as long as they wish and only pay the mar...

Re: Flying in Ireland flyin

I had a chat with some of the people in the Community Development Company (they have been campaigning to open the airstrip for years) they are up for a fly in in the Summer. They suggest that June would be better for accommodation. Anyone like to approach the Department for permission !!!!!! I would...

Re: Flying in Ireland flyin

I know some of the locals I will take soundings. Getting the permission from the owners The Dept of The Galetacht & Islands would be required ..................any suggestions on that one? May as well ask for Cleggan at the same time. Any dates to aim for?

Re: Galway Airport Sold

what to do with Galway Airport? Just have a look at how Oban is operated by the local authority. A really fine GA field. As for the local users in Galway Airport especially the club and other businesses, they have the benefits under the landlord and tenants legislation to continue using the property...

Re: Inishbofin & Cleggan Airfields up for sale?

Cant see a bidding war breaking out on this one. I hope the locals get it for a nominal sum. They could then 'open' Inishbofin and carry on. Inishbofin could have some small (very small) potential as an access point to the island. Cleggan never made any sense ............except for the politicians t...

Re: AAIU Reports

I maybe off the point here but It would appear that the IAA do not want to be involved with GA, full stop. We are probably a bit of a nuisance to most of them. For example, I wrote to the CEO in July 2011 to request the help of the IAA in the introduction of a Strasser scheme here similar to the one...
