Weston is 20 minutes from the city centre, it's costs are higher, it's making investment. You don't compare the price of renting a house in ballsbridge to the price of renting one in Crossmalina now do you?

Like with like guys.

Cosmic, Thanks for your long retort, can you answer something for me? Do you work for Ryanair? Being familiar with the reason behind charging people for type ratings, I can tell you that Ryanair 'leading the way' is not really true. They are doing it because there is a glut of pilots at the moment a...

Hi Liam You could, upon completion of your atp's, apply for a job with any airline. However, most of the big airlines will not accept you with just minimum atp qualifications, you would likely need to work as an instructor to build hours before you would get considered for the likes of Ryanair. Even...

I fully agree Hugo, of course everyone using this board knows that all posts can be traced if nessecary.

Thankfully the site's excellent administrator has removed the message and hopefully that'll be the end of this matter.

Further clarification re Dolly's Grove. There is no part owners, there is a single owner. Further more, no matter who you are or who you know, permission CANNOT be obtained to land there, not even if you are a cousin of Jesus himself. We would ask that all parties respect our private property and do...

I wonder what would happen if an airplane just 'happened' to hit one on approach? That would surely constitute criminal endangerment of a flight, in the US that's a terrorist offence.

Something to think about perhaps.

They are only kites....couldn't do that much damage could they?

Weston is an air-traffic zone as far as I know, so that the 'controller' provides limited information to air traffic, ie they can't control aircraft in the air, but they can control on the ground. Sound complicated? If they upgrade and get a VOR approach (I here that is happening soon) then they mig...

Hi Claire, Give Dave Bruton a ring on -----, he has an Extra 200 in Abbeyshrule (a good bit from Dublin) and he does instruction, not so sure about hire but possibly. As for a nice friendly club with a good range of aircraft to hire? Hmmmm. Not so sure I can help you there! RickL *NOTE: Mark rightfu...

Forget Noise Abatement

People need to chill out a little about noise, the fact is the residents around the airfield can huff and puff all they want but they won't get that place closed down, so we shouldn't appease them. Instead, perhaps Weston could set up a complaints answer phone like several airfields in the UK have d...

RV,

Don't live in the states but did all my fixed wing training there and I'm a regular visiter. I fully agree that the same type of common sense aviation would work in Ireland!

What is it that all the complainers here actually want from big Jim? Here he goes and spends a crap load of money on an airfield that was wasting away, he lengthens the runway, builds a large 'taxiway' and starts building hangers with the promise of more development. In case no one has noticed, deve...

Yeah I second that, did my fixed-wing ppl/ir over in Florida and have to say that flying in the states is like a breath of fresh air. Was getting a brand new C172R with full IR avionics and an instructor for US$120/hr. Fully recommend that to everyone, and when you get your FAA cert, it's a credit c...

I didn't think you could get an FAA licence issued on the back of your JAA one now unless you actually visit an FSDO, the nearest one to here is in London, think there is also one in Paris. After 9/11 all the piggy back licences were cancelled, so if anyone got theirs before then be advised that it ...
