Just wondering if anyone knows what became of the Air Corps Sia Marchetti aircraft ? Do they still have/use them or were they sold of as surplus ?

Thanks for any info.

the tenders went in recently to dismantle them, but I don't think they can can be certified due to the military maintenance and the warrior wing section, in the US the warriors are experimental; so they're probabaly going to another airforce or off to the US, I guess maybe you can put them on a permit in the UK? A,B's & C's are no problem to get certified.

Unofficially the story is that 6 SF.260WE's will go to the USA, for the secondhand market.
Number 7 will remain in Ireland for the museum.

Thats the Info i got.

Other things i have heard is if your gonna buy them then "what you see is what you get" thats the attitude going around from other peoples posts on www.irishairpics.com.

Heliops.. Tks a lot for checking in to this. Do you happen to know the general condition of the airframes ? Any vague idea what sort of hours would be on the fleet ?

Thanks a lot.

Hi there
The information regarding airframe and engine hours was posted, and their general condition, which is very good, posted on the Irishairpics forum. Just do a search. Failing that, ring the DoD and ask them.

Just as a matter of interest for you guys... Those Siai Marchetti's (SF260's)have finally turned up in the US on the secondhand maket. 6 pieces.

2 sold and still on Air Corps colours... (only Air Corps colours flying in the USA ???)

Apparently can be had for USD225k per piece. Nice profit for somebody I imagine.. Any idea what they sold for as a job lot ?
