Re: Opinions on finishing PPL in the USA

Hello Mr Mallachy Very best of luck Just to say to you : don't whatebver you do, get talked into coming one with an FAA PPL It's an excellent licence, probably better than ours, but administratively flawed for use here or in most ICAO countries It does not State that it is issued under Annex 1 of IC...

Re: Logged hours toward keeping SEP current

I believe Life Spport was turned off the JAA 30 June 2009 Their sole-codes now administered by EASA - until superceded as some already have been I don't believe the Safety Pilot is a flght crew member - he is the eyes of the P1 under the hood, conveying info to him by speech, and perhaps, by control...

Re: Conflict in definition of 'Night' in SIs?

For HUM

Another one you might like to look at is the Airworthiness Order for how it tells, or doesn't tell, whether it is "Flight Time" or "Time in Service" that ought to be entered in an aircraft and engine logbools

Re: Conflict in definition of 'Night' in SIs?

I just recall that when this "Night" conflict between Rules of Air v Licensing was raised with IAA not long after initial publicationthe answer was; "It doesn't really matter because when Sean Lemass introduced ICAO to Irish law in the Forties it was done in a way that ensured that Convention and al...

Re: Aircraft Leasing Environment

Don't lose too much sleep over the Permt to Fly, Ciaran That is, unless you have found one valid for International Flight! - the JAA at Hoofdoorf were working on it quite enthusiastically at one stage but I haven't heard that they had come up with anytrhing that could be squared with ICAO This does ...

Re: Aircraft Leasing Environment

Good for Stovepipe - always I didn't consider the MEL or CDL concession situation because, if my memory right, the C of A is not invalidated You mention Permit to Fly - the question is how do you manage to get a permit on which you can make an International flight. Don't say "Just ask for it" - beca...

Re: New EASA rules for FAA licence and aircraft

Oh Yes! There will most certainly be issues for us in Ireland The AOPA site you have identified assumes that use of an FAA licence will not be usable in Europe on aircraft of ANY register. I don't believe that is what is at stake What it is about is that European Authorities, Training Establishments...

Re: Aircraft Leasing Environment

So far so good Ciaran But I am afraid you're not going to get the answer to the Airbus conundrum from me just on the basis of 30 mins reflection! Just have a look at ICAO and what kinds of International flights must have a C of A and what needn't Let me know what you conclude =======================...

Re: Aircraft Leasing Environment

Hello Ciaran I am afraid I reckon it very irresponsible that you should be expected to go out and find a placement for yourself If you write in or appear on the doorstep it needs the most unlikely co-incidence to bring about that your overture will be progressed. Your College should do this for you ...

Re: Aircraft Leasing Environment

Srovepipe's idea is good - as usual Leasing Companies typically have functional areas below General Management : Marketing/Financial/Legal/Technical and, very important, I/T These tend to recruit their needs from known sources It is unusual to see someone in a Leasing Company as their first job : pr...

Re: PFLs for PPLs -Practicing Forced Landings for PPLs

I just cannot, cannot, countenance the idea that any instructor who is Human, not Martian, would dream of sending a student solo before he /she had most conscientiously and thoroughly prepared the student for the eventuality of having to complete a landing without power You will see that HUM, the gr...

This has been a splendid string I did some research on this after that tragedy of the death of two instructors at Weston : it may be worth airing here ================================= I was saddened to see your report mentioning that the Candidate Instructor had been admonished for permitting desce...

Re: Aircraft Technical Log ?

I think we have to accept that the "Time in Service" concept is now kind of fairly widespread (see below) Let's go the beginning : what yardstick is the owner of an EI Reg aircraft supposed to use - and does tis put him at a disadvantage with respect to his foreign fellows? ICAO Annex 6 2.6.2.1 The ...

With he IAA the difficulty is that they are not normally in the in the business of 'Creating LAws' Look up the list of things they are supposed to do in their Act (414 of 1993_) I did once buttonhole the then Head of Airworthiness IAA and showed him the apparent contradiction in his S.I. - his react...
